making soap

I started making soaps many years ago because I thought they'd be a simple and practical gift!  Simple... well, maybe, but not to learn to make.  After many failed attempts and much learned, I figured the process out and, voila, I had a little collection of soaps and friends who wanted to buy them.

Each small batch is made from a base of olive oil, soybean and coconut oil, cocoa butter with good old fashioned lye to cause the saponification.  Some batches have a little added goat's milk. Most are scented with essential oils. Many have botanicals in them...usually from my garden.  The process of making and curing each batch takes about a month before they can be trimmed and wrapped. The suds are silky and feel good.  Have you ever noticed the consistency of the suds you are washing with?  These bars last a really, really long time!

The soaps are for sale:  $5 per bar.  You can email me here....  maretsoap@gmail.com

shipping costs:

$6 per order.

Many fans keeps a stash on hand to have at each sink and shower; others keep extras so they always have a "little gift" to give--a friend's birthday, a thank you, the kids' teachers gifts, a little something to stuff in stockings during the holidays or take to the host or hostess of the party... whatever you can think of.

All of the soaps are listed below.  Most have photos.  Read on to find the ones you like the best and then send me an email!

enjoy, maret

Favorites!

rosemary-mint

This soap is an all-time favorite--especially with the kids.  A green soap, it is uplifting and cheering with a minty smell and a handful of rosemary off my favorite plant. (Essential Oils:  Peppermint & Rosemary)

 tall grass prairie

Okay, so this is the soap that is most inspired by my surroundings:  the smell of the grass after a rain, wheat oils and germ from the nearby crops and the various colors of the prairie.  (Essential Oils:  Clary Sage, Sweet Orange & Cedarwood)

calendula petal

I harvest the petals from my calendula flowers all summer, infuse them in olive oil over the winter and use both the oil and the petals in the soap.  The petals give this bright yellow soap nice orange highlights.  Calendula is healing for your skin. (Essential Oil:  Lavender)

 chocolate spice

It smells good enough to eat but don't mistake this soap for being edible!  This swirling white and brown soap is rich and aromatic.  The coloring comes from spices in the cabinet--like cocoa powder, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg.  (Essential Oils: Cinnamon, Sweet Orange & Bergamot)

good spirit

This swirly white and orange soap lingers with you all day.  (Essential oils:  Sweet Orange, Bergamot and Patchouli)

lemon floral

A white with yellow swirl soap with bright lemon and geranium scents.  (Essential oils: Lemon, Gernaium)

sweet orange/eucalyptus

An invigorating soap that will wake your senses and your sinuses in the morning!  Many people grab for this orange soap for the shower or for bathing their dogs (and even their horses)!  (Essential oils:  Sweet Orange, Eucalyptus & Citronella)

jasmine citrus

This is a new soap this season featuring the enticing scents of jasmine mixed with a variety of citrus scents--orange and grapefruit essential oils.  This is quickly becoming a new favorite for many.  (Essential Oil:  Jasmine, Grapefruit and Sweet Orange)

fresh face

Filled with face gentle and face healing ingredients including sunflower oil, carrot oil, lemon grass and ... to keep your face looking fresh and blemish free.   (Essential Oils: Lemon Grass, Grapefruit, Carrot and Orange)

A classic scent and a favorite to many.  (Fragrance oil:  Sandalwood)

goat milk soaps

Sticking with my base recipe for the soaps, I augment these 4 varieties with some goat milk because it makes them just a bit milder and gentler and because goat milk smells wonderful (but fortunately this doesn't come through in bar)!

floral rose goat milk

This lovely white bar is speckled with ground up rose petals and carries a bright floral scent.  This has become my husband's favorite over the years!  (Essential oils: Geranium, Rosewood & Lavender)

purist soap

The gentlest of the soaps I make.  This one has apricot oil in it along with goat's milk to make it extra gentle and healing.  There are no added scents; only the slight essence of cocoa butter comes through.  This soap is great for babies and those with very sensitive or needy skin. NO scents added.

lemony-mint goat milk

A soft-colored green soap with a bright and uplifting scent.  (Essential oils:  Lemon Verbena & Spearmint)

almond goat milk

Containing almond meal and lavender petals for some texture and scrubbing power, there is also almond oil in this soap for extra hydration.  (Essential Oil: Lavender)
