Solve for x: 1x (30*3)=1000
Hint: x is not a number, but a thing.
X is believed to have been an errant cigarette, tossed idly out the window along Road 53. The wind was blowing approximately 30 miles per hour out of the north/northwest. Over the course of about 3 hours, the fire traveled south 4.5 miles, burned about 1000 acres and was finally put out just a quarter mile north of the house.
Many thanks to those who helped: neighbors/family with shovels and tractors, water wagons and trailers, the many local fire departments (some who came from as far as 30 miles away), the maintainers cutting fire lines, and the spray planes dropping water. Only grass and fences were lost. But it was a close call.
Update: Report in the paper indicates the fire was 1500 acres. I guess I should change the formula.

WOW that is amazing! I am so glad everyone is safe including the chickens and the boys and the horses and the cats, even cricket. I am amazed also that you still manage to make beautiful photos of something so destructive.
I'm so glad you and all your neighbors are ok, no lost stock.....no lost structures....through the efforts of so many
great people who really come out when needed! What a relief!
good thing X doesn't = ashes in the garden. Then, Lari would have to have to sit you down..
So glad it was a best case outcome. What ifs are frightening!
according to wes pollart - Steve Wagner saw x fly out the window and almost had the fire out with a shovel...
Yes, there were 3 people (that I know of) who worked to stop the fire at the road: Kenny, Buzz and Steve. Word is, once the fire moved up out of the barrow ditch and got into the pasture, it took off and there was nothing more they could do. Considering the wind, no surprise there.
Question is, does the person who tossed X out the window realize the consequence of their action?
